56-year-old Male Injured When Semi-Tractor Strikes Wheel/Tire That Came Off Improperly-Repaired Van on I-94 in Portage, Indiana

On October 4, 2017, at or near 6:40 a.m., a white 2007 Ford E-350 was traveling east on I-94 near mile marker 18 in Portage, County of Porter, State of Indiana. The aforementioned white 2007 Ford E-350 was being operated a heating/cooling company. According to the traffic crash report, the tires on the white 2007 Ford E-350 had recently been replaced. At aforementioned time and place, M-56 was, also, traveling east on I-94 near mile marker 18 in Portage, Indiana and was operating a semi-tractor and trailer. There were three permanent lanes of traffic. However, the left lane was closed due to construction. M-56 was traveling in the middle lane and, given the construction, was thus in the left of two lanes available at that time. M-56 encountered one of the tires and, unable to avoid the debris, struck the dire that lay in his lane of through traffic. As a result of striking the tire, the tractor of M-56’s vehicle was through in the air and M-56 was thrown inside his vehicle. M-56 was able to keep control of his vehicle and, then, moved his vehicle to the right shoulder of the highway.
M-56 sustained injuries to her left hip and shoulder, as well as to her cervical and thoracic spine.
